Automated Phone Call Scams, or "Robo-Calls", Have Recently Resurfaced
Victims have been receiving automated calls on their land lines and cell phones claiming to be from a bank or credit union. The message indicates that their account has been locked or closed, or that their card numbers were compromised. The victims are asked to enter their credit or debit card number, account number, and/or PIN.
- Never respond to any telephone call requesting personal or financial information.
- Remember, Coosa Pines FCU will never call or email you to ask for your confidential information.
- Take caution when visiting social network sites and sharing personal information.
If you receive such a phone call, report it to your financial institution first. Then call the Federal Trade Commission at 877-382-4357. You may also want to call your phone carrier, whether land line or cell phone provider.
If you have provided account or card information, notify local law enforcement and close or block the account(s) to prevent fraudulent transactions. You should also call one of the three major credit bureaus to place an "initial fraud alert" on your credit report.
If you have questions or think you may be a victim of identity theft, please call your local Coosa Pines FCU branch. We'd be happy to help!
