State and Area Cities and Counties Waive Sales Taxes for Back to School Shopping
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. (CST) on Friday August 5, 2011, and ending at twelve midnight on Sunday August 7, 2011, Alabama will hold its sixth annual sales tax holiday, giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers, and clothing items free of state sales or use tax.
Retailers are required to participate, and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt during the Sales Tax Holiday.
Local sales and use tax
may apply, so be sure to check your city and county before you head out for some non-stop shopping. We’ve included a partial list below, but you can find the full list at the Alabama Department of Revenue’s
Sales Tax Holiday site, along with a
Quick Reference Sheet of included and excluded items that can be downloaded and printed.
